Male Infertility Treatment in Ahmedabad
Infertility affects about 1 in 7 couples — and in nearly half of these cases, a male factor is involved. Yet male infertility is often overlooked, with evaluation focused only on the female partner. Dr. Kalpesh Kapadia, MCh Uroandrologist and Gold Medallist from B.J. Medical College, Ahmedabad, provides complete, focused evaluation and treatment of male infertility.
The good news: most causes of male infertility are treatable, and many couples go on to conceive — naturally or with assistance.
What is Male Infertility?
Male infertility is the inability of a man to cause pregnancy in a fertile female partner after one year of regular, unprotected intercourse. It is usually related to problems with sperm production, sperm quality, or sperm delivery. A semen analysis is the starting point — but a thorough assessment looks at hormonal, genetic, anatomical, and lifestyle factors too.
Common Causes of Male Infertility
- Azoospermia — no sperm in the semen (obstructive or non-obstructive)
- Low sperm count (oligospermia) — fewer sperm than normal
- Poor sperm motility (asthenozoospermia) — sperm that don’t swim well
- Abnormal sperm shape (teratozoospermia) — affects ability to fertilise
- Varicocele — enlarged scrotal veins, the most common correctable cause
- Hormonal imbalances — low testosterone, high FSH/LH, thyroid or prolactin issues
- Genetic conditions — Klinefelter syndrome, Y-chromosome microdeletions
- Ejaculatory or erectile problems — preventing sperm from reaching the egg
- Lifestyle factors — smoking, alcohol, obesity, heat exposure, stress
- Infections or prior surgery — affecting the reproductive tract

Treatment Approaches
Medical & Lifestyle Treatment
Hormonal therapy, antioxidants, treatment of infections, and lifestyle modification (weight loss, quitting smoking and alcohol, reducing heat exposure) can significantly improve sperm parameters in many men.
Surgical Treatment
Microsurgical varicocelectomy, surgical correction of blockages, and sperm retrieval procedures (Micro-TESE, TESE, PESA) address structural and obstructive causes.
Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART)
When natural conception isn’t possible, IUI, IVF, and ICSI — often using surgically retrieved sperm — offer excellent chances of pregnancy. Dr. Kalpesh Kapadia works closely with IVF centres and embryologists to coordinate care.

Frequently Asked Questions
When should a couple see a male fertility specialist?
If you have been trying to conceive for 12 months without success (or 6 months if the female partner is over 35), both partners should be evaluated. The male evaluation starts with a simple semen analysis and should never be skipped.
Is male infertility treatable?
In most cases, yes. Many causes — varicocele, hormonal imbalance, infections, lifestyle factors — are directly treatable. Even in azoospermia, sperm retrieval combined with IVF/ICSI offers real chances of fatherhood.
Does male infertility mean low masculinity or low libido?
No. Fertility and masculinity are not the same. Most men with infertility have completely normal sexual function, libido, and testosterone. Infertility is a medical condition, not a reflection of manhood.
How long does treatment take to show results?
Because sperm take about 3 months to develop, improvements in semen parameters are usually assessed 3 months after starting treatment. Surgical results and ART outcomes follow their own timelines, which Dr. Kalpesh Kapadia will explain clearly.
